3,4Bacon County: Pioneers
"come sit a spell, and visit with us."

Since Bacon County was formed out of several other counties, we must look to what once were Appling County residents who settled in the land now called Bacon for it's earliest residents. These men settled where they felt that they could survive, and prosper, and raise their families regardless of the boundaries being drawn around them.

Martha’s husband Jeptha Barber is mentioned in Bonnie Taylor Baker's book, "The History of Alma & Bacon County, Georgia", published in 1984, pg 19-21. She originally obtained it from a Finding List of Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia published by Folks Huxford. Judy Strickland, a descendant of John Lee, RS, has made minor corrections. The following is a small excerpt of him from the book.

Jeptha Barber was born in 1830 in Georgia, a grandson of Charles Barber, a Revolutionary soldier. He married Martha Medders and they had three children who married Taylor, Head, and Smith. Jeptha and Martha are buried in the Big Creek Cemetery.

This information was taken from Bonnie Taylor Baker's book, "The History of Alma & Bacon County, Georgia", published in 1984, pg 19-21.
